Rented Parts, Letting Go

Found a deal so good on another pair of carbon FSA cranks that I bought them despite full knowledge that they will not last till the end of the year.  I can’t wait to be in a financial position when I can only buy and use the kind of parts that I would give my full endorsement rather than shoddily built, me too, carbon parts made by a company with a horrible record for quality and service.   They are a rental, I need new cranks, these look cool, are light, and will be stiff and fast for a finite period of time before being relegated to the scrap bin, Oh Well.

That I do this on my own bikes, get them running and running the hell out of them, makes me a bit of a hipocrit when a customer is building up a frame that I designed, built, sweated over, and temporarily loved and I get terribly distressed if they are using sub par componentry.  I want the new bikes to be beautiful, fast,  and eternally functional, the way I imagined them at the frames inception, “please don’t use that f%#@ing heavy seatpost, and spend some money on tires”.   At some point though I have to let go, its their bike now, and if I did my job right they’ll be happy with it even if they do choose to put FSA cranks on it.
