You don’t realize how much poor technique you can get away with riding trails with things like front suspension and even clipless pedals. I took the trail bike back to the basics and got out for a couple of hours in the woods after swapping out the loaner suspension fork for a loaner rigid fork and not bothering to put some clicky pedals on and rode in flat pedals & sneakers. I’d thought I was bunny hopping, I’d thought I was maintaining my momentum through the rough stuff, I was but aparently I wasn’t doing it right. On a bike that isn’t going to forgive your mistakes you’re forced to do it better. Than you can swap back to the riding aids and go that much faster.
