Actually, there were options on my plate this past weekend besides getting my shop organized & cutting some tubes for the growing backlog of Budd Bike Works frames on order or facing the reaper, namely racing. Though, it would have been grossly irresponsible to ignore the clutter of tools and tubes on my bench that are demanding to be turned into proper performance bike frames in a reasonable time frame and go racing CycloCross in Providence this past Saturday. So I shut myself in doors and cleared the decks and got my designs in order for the following Build List Due from BBW World Headquarters in October.
BBW #24-57.0 cm virtual top tube cyclo-cross frame to be ridden by BBW test pilot Jerry Garcia, Jerry is one of the most talented MTB riders I’ve had the pleasure of getting out on the trails with and a former pro on the downhill circuit. His pestering for a CX frame for him to ride on and wow people with his bike handling prowess finally broke down my resistance to building a frame por gratis and remaining broke and poor. I am really happy with the way this bike is coming together so far and I figure it can be my show bike whenever Jerry isn’t bunny hopping it over parked cars or wheelying it across counties.
BBW #25-55.5cm Virtual Top Tube Cyclo-Cross frame for Ben Frank. Ben is an old friend from the courier days with a biblical looking head of hair & beard, a principled lifestyle, a penchant for off road epics on the cross bike, and a history of braking frames. He’d be a perfect addition to the nascent BBW cylocrsoss race & adventure team even if it weren’t an excersise in symmetry for the line up for Budd Bike Works to be Matt, Ben, & Ben
BBW #26-54.0 cm Virtual Top Tube Gravel Road/ Townie/Cyclo-Cross frame for Anita Buggins. How hilarious is it that my brother Josh Budd is with a girl named Anita Buggins, I hope they marry and both hyphenate and name their first child Bobby just because I like alliteration so much. Anita’d been a pro tennis star and the right bike (i.e. the bike I’m building her) will surely spark her latent athleticism so I am being sure to make the bike for getting around philadelphia she requested capable of performance once those long, strong legs innevitably start hammering at the pedals.
