BBW #26 is inching nearer completion with some interesting construction details that I can only describe as rolled joints. Making each miter by hand is so fastidious and slow anyhow that it doesn’t seem like that much of an extra burden to try something a little different with each one of them so instead of cutting them to length and getting my “fish mouth’s” to fit up I’ve been leaving the extra material on while I perform tube surgery with airplane sheers and files and wrapping the remaining Budd flaps around their mates. This process gives a ton of weld surface to torch and a bit of extra reinforcement to the joint, not to mention that it looks cool and no-one else is doing it.
This kind of gruellingly time consuming, painstaking work has to come at a premium, though still on the low end of the scale for custom frames a BBW bike spine is quite an investment for a majority of folks out there and I have heard from a number of them that they’ll be getting me a deposit as soon as they can afford it. Wallowing in wage slave hell myself I know how infrequently there is anything left from the paycheck after the man, the other man, and the phone company get their greasy palms on it and having a grand to invest in a luxury like a custom bike frame can be as far fetched a fantasy as any fairytale. Thats why I want to offer something a little more affordable for the folks that may be a fan of my bikes or who, like me, just like to throw on a bike hat instead of combing their hair. The proof is in for the first run of Budd Bike Works caps with the stylish new logo in all it’s understated glory. I’m trying to gauge what kind of response their would be to purchasing a $15 cycling cap with the BBW logo before I sink the piggy bank on the deposit so I’ll be posting the design up here shortly and would love to hear what whoever it is I imagine to be reading this thinks.
