So the stories of some of the bikes listed on my last post is not quite complete. #13, my after hours built cross stead had gotten an emergency top tube replacement after I’d revealed a not repeated design flaw riding it in the woods a day before my first race on it at suckerbrook this September. The true temper S3 top tube remained raw through the season with occasional applications of oil and an occasional sanding keeping the rust at bay. I have been wanting to try some new techniques on the finishing of my frames and figured I’d kill two birds with one stone by testing out the logo masking I just had cut from hi-temp polysomethingorother while finally getting some protection on #13. This process has a lot of potential and i wanted to test it on my own ugly duck of a bike to see what it will take to get it looking pro before I offer it to the general public.
Scary as all the talented competition out there is it is tempered by the fact that for the most part my fellow framebuilders are a friendly lot willing to extend a favor in exchange for a brew or two and I am lucky enough to live in the same metro region as Geekhouse bikes and Sugarcoat powder coating where Marty was kind enough to allow me to spray and bake this monstrosity.
